A small soum in a western aimag, with a fairly large claim to fame: one of Mongolia's Prime Ministers and now current President, Ts. Elbegdorj, was born in Zereg soum, a fact the people of Zereg are very proud of. Elbegdorj has served two seperate terms as the country's Prime Minister, and in 2009 he was elected President.
Getting There:
The 141 km of road that connects Zereg soum with Hovd city is part of the bigger road that connects Hovd City with Ulaanbaatar. The road is unpaved, but it is large and by Mongolian countryside standards it is of decent quality. If traveling by car between Hovd City and Ulaanbaatar it is possible that you will not only pass through Zereg soum, but that you will also stop there to eat. The ride to Zereg from Hovd City should take between 3 and 4 hours, and on the way you will pass Mankhan soum, as well as Khar Us Nuur and Jargalant Khairkhan Mountain
