As the largest city of western Mongolia, the shopping options in Hovd are fairly broad. The aimag's southern border is shared with China, which allows for many Chinese goods to be available in Hovd's markets. Hovd's proximity to Kazakhstan and the Kazakh-populated aimag of Bayan Ulgii also means Kazakh goods, especially Kazakh embroidery, are widely available.

The largest market in Hovd is the outdoor Black Market, which spans 10 hectares and has several hundred vendors.

Around the corner from the Black Market is the two-story Pink Market, another of Hovd's large markets.

A good option for harder to find goods is the supermarket Nomin Hovd, which also has a souvenir and traditional clothing section in the front.

One of the best shopping opportunities in Hovd is for Kazakh embroidered goods. The best option for buying these goods is the Kazakh Embroidery Shop just off the main street.
