[edit] Market Day
Every September Hovd aimag celebrates its rich, harvest season with Market Day, a gathering of producers and growers from the farthest reachest of the aimag with their goods on display (not to mention for sale) during this two-day event in Hovd city. This year's event took place on September 1 & 2, 2008. (Follow the link provided for more details on Market Day).
[edit] Solar Eclipse and Danshig Naadam
In Summer 2008 two rare events took place in Hovd. On July 26th Hovd hosted Danshig Naadam 2008, a giant western Mongolian Naadam event that only takes place once every several years, with participants coming from all of the western aimags to compete. The festivities continued July 28th with a festival celebrating the unique artwork from Hovd's many distinct ethnic groups.
In the week after Danshig Naadam an even rarer event occurred: on August 1st Hovd aimag was among the 1% of the Earth's surface that was directly in the "path of totality" of a Total Solar Eclipse. For additional info on both events follow the links provided.
