The Big Family Guesthouse
At long last, Hovd has its own guesthouse! The Big Family Guesthouse opened on May 25, 2009 in the center of town, it is a one-story red brick building directly behind the mint green Khaan Bank building. It will have a total of 8 beds (4 bunkbeds) and cost $10 (US) per night; included in the price are the following services:
- Free pickup from the Hovd Airport
- Free breakfast (Fried egg with bread, tea/coffee)
- Free hot shower
- 1 hour of free internet per day (700T/hour after that)
Other perks of staying in the Big Family Guesthouse are a 24 hour check-in service, an English-speaking manger, a clean bathroom with a nicer shower than those at the Shower House, a spacious sleeping area, and a separate common room with cable TV, internet, and a kitchen for the guests to use. There is also a small art shop in the common room with handicrafts made by the owner's mother, and Mongolian deels (dress robes) on hand so the guests can take free photos of themselves wearing traditional Mongolian clothes. There is no curfew at the guesthouse, and there is no smoking allowed inside. In the winter the heat is supplied centrally by radiators, in the non-winter months heat can still be controlled by a stove on colder days.
